We’re a member of Water Resources South East (WRSE), which is an alliance of the six water companies serving the south east.
Together, we’ve developed the region’s first best value plan for water resources. This looks across company boundaries to identify options that deliver the most benefits to customers, business and the environment.
Our draft Water Resources Management Plan (WRMP) aligns with the regional plan. If needed, we’ll update our plans in the future to make sure they stay aligned. This will help make sure we’re aligned with our neighbouring companies too.
As part of WRSE, we’ve engaged with customers and stakeholders through webinars, events and consultations. This includes on their emerging regional plan in January 2022 which received over 1,100 responses.
WRSE consulted on its draft best value regional plan until 20 February 2023 and will publish its response later this year. You can find out more at wrse.org.uk.
How this links to our draft WRMP
We worked with Water Resources South East (WRSE) to develop a region-wide plan for water resources. The draft regional plan is reflected in our draft WRMP.
This means our draft WRMP is part of a regional solution, and we’ve identified schemes that could transfer water from new sources developed by other companies.
The options in the draft regional plan are best value, which means they’ll deliver the water we need alongside other benefits like improved resilience, increased biodiversity and environmental protection. In previous plans we’ve had to choose the most cost-efficient options, regardless of other benefits that could be delivered.
Water Resources South East’s launch webinar 22nd November
We took part in Water Resources South East’s launch webinar on 22nd November, sharing details of the regional draft best value plan to almost 200 stakeholders. This included the big challenges our region faces and the mix of options we’ve identified to meet them.
