Our Winnovators team are walking for WaterAid, and they’re up for the challenge!
‘Let it flow, help it grow, H2O’ is the name of this year’s Southern Water team in the Winnovators competition, where teams from different companies compete to raise the most money for WaterAid. One of the first challenges our team will be taking on is a charity walk, covering 160km across Kent, East Sussex, West Sussex and Hampshire.
The walking Winnovators
The walk will be done by the whole team working in stretches, starting on 4 August and finishing on 19 August. They’ll also be picking up litter on the way and holding a competition for the most litter collected by weight.
Our team members are:
Bethany Molyneux – Bethany is an Asset Performance Analyst who studied Water and Environmental Management. Bethany's been a follower of WaterAid's since primary school, so is delighted to be contributing towards such a great cause that helps so many across the world.
Declan Ratchford – Declan is a Category Manager who is keen to learn more about the water sector and make a positive impact through this project.
Ewa Esposito – Ewa is a Senior Monitoring Scientist and Deputy Technical Manager with a fascination for WaterAid’s work.
Nitin Gyanchandani – Nitin is HSSW Governance Manager and is the WaterAid Committee Secretary. Nitin started working with WaterAid years ago. He was keen to continue, so joined the WaterAid team here at Southern Water.
Ray Devaney – Ray is a Business Analyst in IT who wants to learn about the work of WaterAid around the world.
The team will start their walk at Old Romney Marsh, and over the course of the following days it will take them to Hastings, Eastbourne, Brighton, Littlehampton, Durrington, Bignor Hill, Rowlands Castle and finally to Winchester, where the walk will come to an end.

Other opportunities with the Winnovators project
Raising funds is just one part of the Winnovators competition. While the teams must raise at least £5,000 from funding, they also look at how to solve a real-world water problem and record their learning. The winners of the Winnovator Project will have the opportunity to tackle a real issue faced by WaterAid, and the issue our team has chosen to focus on is the disposal of sanitary products in rural India.
Funds raised under the Winnovators project will go directly to WaterAid. The funding will then be distributed across all the countries where WaterAid work. The charity aims to improve access to clean water, sanitation and hygiene around the world.
