Charities and community groups on the Isle of Sheppey are set to benefit from special Southern Water grants this summer.
Customers on the island are now able to nominate local good causes to receive a portion of the newly launched Sheppey Community Fund, set up to recognise the community spirit shown during July’s temporary loss of water supplies in the area – caused by a burst water main.
Katy Taylor, Southern Water’s Chief Customer Officer, said: “I’m very sorry for the disruption and distress that this caused. We’re doing everything we can to make this right, and this fund is in addition to our existing compensation scheme.
“We will provide donations to support customers’ favourite local charities, community and volunteer-led groups on the Isle of Sheppey. To make sure the money is going where it’s needed most, we’re encouraging you to nominate your preferred charity or community group.”
Sheppey customers can vote on the Southern Water website now, and this will close on Monday 1 August. A shortlist will then be published on our website and across our social media platforms, for final nominations.
Alongside the fund, Southern Water is also supporting Swale Pride and Festival of the Sea.
