Southern Water is supporting students from Bohunt Worthing School by taking part in Dare to Dream, an inspirational programme created by the Love Local Jobs Foundation in partnership with Adur and Worthing Councils, which aims to support the self-awareness, resilience, employability skills and wellbeing of young people.
Delivered around core themes of self-awareness, mindset, gratitude, resilience, teamwork and employability, inspirational speaker, Jack the Lad, the well-known former host of the Breakfast Show on Heart FM, who is now on air with More Radio and business volunteers from Southern Water use their own experiences to drive and motivate young people.
The programme is taking place over the spring and summer term with multiple interactions of inspirational assemblies to the year 9 students and further workshops and mentoring for a cohort of students to help give them the confidence they need to fulfil their potential.
Headteacher at Bohunt Worthing School, Adam Whitehead commented,
“It was wonderful to be able to welcome back 'Jack the Lad' to Bohunt School Worthing, he last visited us in 2019. Once again, his talk was engaging and really captured our students' attention and encouraged them to reflect and think about their role, purpose and direction within the world.
The Dare to Dream collaboration with Southern Water provides an excellent opportunity for our students to meet business mentors and experience communicating with adults from the business sector whilst thinking about their future career plans. The follow up sessions will really help give students a focus to consolidate their plans for life after high school.”
Alex Willumsen, Community Partnerships and Programme Manager for Southern Water said,
“We have been excited to support the young person mentoring scheme Dare to Dream as part of our community programmes for this year. Our employees will be supporting 15 young people to feel motivated and supported in their future goals.
The programme aligns with our own objectives as an organisation to enhance health and wellbeing for our staff by volunteering and continuing our work with young people by sharing our skills and time and supporting young people in our communities to thrive. This scheme also plays a crucial part in future-proofing talent and workforces for crucial utility companies such as ourselves, we want to ensure we continue to attract the very best talent for the water industry.”
Christina Fishlock, Head of Community Programmes for the Love Local Jobs Foundation said,
“We are delighted to be able to deliver the Dare to Dream programme in partnership with Adur and Worthing Councils at Bohunt Worthing School with Southern Water. The business mentors from Southern Water have listened to the students’ experiences and have shared their own personal and career journeys, engaging the young people in conversation to help encourage and motivate them. This is the ideal opportunity for young people to understand what may lie ahead and to open their eyes up to the potential possibilities. The programme enables young people to understand the different qualities and attributes that are required in the workplace, and to inspire them to fulfil their potential both personally and professionally.”
