We regret to inform that excess rainfall and a mechanical fault have resulted in an unpermitted discharge from our outfall at Romsey Wastewater Treatment Works into the River Test.
The release is highly diluted, due to rainwater making up a large proportion of the volume, which is in line with our environmental permit. However, due to the nature of the mechanical fault, approximately two hours of the release was unscreened.
In an attempt to mitigate any unscreened release, we pre-emptively put in place measures, including tankering the flow to another wastewater treatment works, but due to the excess rainfall this didn't entirely prevent a release. We have been working through the night to install temporary measures to screen the flow, which are now in place. We will continue to work on repairing the mechanical issue and return the site to full working order.
We apologise for any inconvenience caused.
