We’re sorry customers in Kings Worthy, Easton and Martyr Worthy have experienced low pressure or no water.
Our teams repaired a burst near Martyr Worthy yesterday and are continuing to work on another burst in the area today. Both of these bursts were as a result of the colder weather we’re experiencing.
These repairs are unrelated to the issues that happened earlier in the week.

We’re sorry customers in Kings Worthy, Easton and Martyr Worthy are experiencing low pressure or no water.
Our teams are repairing two burst water mains near Martyr Worthy, this was as a result of the colder weather we’re experiencing. Due to one of the pipes being close to another utility, repairing this burst may take several hours.
These repairs are unrelated to the issues that happened earlier in the week.
Update 4.40pm - Thursday 18 January
As no customers are without water and our network is stable we will be reducing our activity in Winchester.
This includes standing down the bottled water station at Coach Park, Worthy Lane.

Update 2pm - Thursday 18 January
We’re very sorry for the distress and disruption this has caused our customers over the past week.
On Friday (January 12) key equipment failed at Easton Water Supply Works following a gas leak. This affected the disinfection procedures which is a crucial part of how we treat water before supplying it to customers.
We shut down the site immediately, preventing water entering the network. Our number one focus then was finding other ways to keep customers in supply. This was a difficult challenge as our local reservoirs were under severe pressure.
To keep up with demand our staff worked around-the-clock using 27 tankers to inject water into the network. Our engineers were also able to move water around the local network in Winchester through what we call a rezone.
These reservoirs and Easton Water Supply Works supply 17,000 properties across Winchester but our response helped reduce the impact at its peak to 3,000 properties. These customers were without water for three hours.
Unfortunately around 400 homes across Winchester and Kings Worthy experienced the impact of low pressure and intermittent loss of supply for most of the week. The addresses impacted included:
- Clifton Road
- Elm Road
- Fordington Road
- Newburgh Street
- Western Road
- Cross Street
- High Street
- Staple Gardens
- Tower Street
- Sarum Road
- Sussex Street
- Upper High Street
- St Pauls Hill
- Hatherley Road
- Stockbridge Road
- Avenue Road
Our alternative response team helped co-ordinate bottled water deliveries to customers, starting with our most vulnerable customers on our Priority Services Register. This was quickly expanded to include deliveries to 3,000 households, schools, businesses and farms.
As our teams worked around the clock to keep most of our customers in supply, efforts continued at our Easton Water Supply Works where we were rebuilding our disinfection process which took a number of days, but the site was up and running again on Tuesday night (16 January).
On 17 January, we encountered a further issue with a water pump near Romsey Road, which impacted homes in west Winchester along with Kings School. This was resolved in four hours but we know this again caused significant disruption.
Normal supply was restored on 18 January, and we’d like to once again apologise for the distress and inconvenience this has caused many households. We know how disruptive any loss of supply or period of low pressure is and we will be reviewing this incident and looking at any areas where lessons can be learnt and improvements can be made.
We’d also like to reassure our customers that we’re investing £3bn between 2020 and 2025 to improve our performance, our Turnaround Plan details where how we’re improving our water network to make it more resilient.
Update 8.05am - Thursday 18 January
Following clear test results from one of our reservoirs near Easton Water Supply Works we’re pleased that customers in Winchester and Kings Worthy should see normal water supply and pressure this morning.

We are so sorry for the inconvenience and distress this has caused especially as it was a prolonged incident that lasted a number of days, with periods of intermittent supply and low pressure.

Update 9pm - Wednesday 17 January
We’re sorry that some customers in Winchester may still be experiencing low pressure following a technical failure at Easton Water Supply Works.
Customers who had no water earlier today in west Winchester near Romsey Road including Kings School now have supply back following a repair today to the nearby booster. Customers in Fulflood and parts of central Winchester should also see an improvement in water pressure after we revised our tankering operation.
We're still awaiting water quality results tonight from one of our reservoirs, if there are no problems, supplies will return to normal tomorrow morning.
Our bottled water station at Coach Park (45 Worthy Lane, SO23 73L) is now closed and will reopen again tomorrow morning at 8am.
Update 3.17pm - Wednesday 17 January
We’re sorry customers in Winchester continue to experience either low pressure or no water due to a technical failure at Easton Water Supply Works.
We have encountered a further issue where one of our boosters that pumps water around the network has failed, which has meant around 220 homes in the west of Winchester are currently without water.
We’re very sorry for the impact this is causing and our teams are working to fix this as quickly as possible. The roads impacted by this include

Most customers should have supply and normal water pressure, however we recognise some areas including Sarum Road and parts of Weeke Down may experience low pressure. For customers who are impacted we would ask them to get in touch with us.
Our bottled water station at Coach Park, Worthy Lane will remain open until 9pm this evening and reopens at 8am tomorrow morning. A further two further bottled water stations remain on standby.
Our work on repairing the technical failure is ongoing, however as this work is not finished we are continuing to inject water into the network with help from tankers. This operation will remain in place until we're confident the issue is resolved.

The majority of customers affected should have had supply restored tonight, however there may still be periods of low pressure and intermittent supply.
Our bottled water station at Coach Park, Worthy Lane is now closed but will reopen again tomorrow morning at 8am. We will keep two further bottled water stations on standby as a precaution.
We’re aiming to restore supplies to everyone and resolve this issue by Wednesday.

Our teams continue to work on a technical failure at our Easton Water Supply Works that has impacted some customers in and around the Winchester area.

We’re sorry to customers in and around Winchester who have been experiencing a loss of supply or low pressure. This is due to a technical failure at Easton Water Supply Works.
Our teams have been working around-the-clock to repair the issue and return services to normal. We have put in place a number of measures to minimise the disruption for customers.
With most customers in supply, our bottled water stations are extremely quiet so two of them will close at 12:30pm. However, teams and bottled water remain on standby.

UPDATE Sunday PM - Easton Water Supply Works, Winchester
Following a technical failure on Friday 12 January at out Easton Water Supply Works, some of our customers in the Sarum Road and West Hill area have experienced low pressure or no water at all.
As of today, Sunday 14 January, all our customers in the SO21, SO22 and SO23 areas of Winchester should be back in supply this morning.
However, we do expect further periods of low pressure and possible loss of supply as we continue to work on the repair. These interruptions to service should be intermittent and may last until Tuesday 16 January.
As a precaution, we are keeping our bottled water stations open throughout today. We have three collection points at:
- Sainsburys Badger Farm Rd, SO22 4QB
- East Winchester Park & Ride (St Catherines) Garnier Rd, SO23 9NP
- Coach Park 45 Worthy Ln, SO23 7EL
We are also continuing to deliver bottled water to our most vulnerable customers on our priority services register.

Our teams are working around the clock on fixing the problem. We are also redirecting tankers to inject straight into this part of the network to help with the return to service.
We’ve also opened 3 bottled water stations in the area, where customers can collect supplies. These will open from 7pm until 10pm tonight:
