The pandemic has impacted us all in some way. Young people have been particularly affected by feelings of isolation and frustration. Recognising a need in the community, the Chichester Community Development Trust (CCDT) stepped in to provide support.
Claire Robinson, Partnerships Coordinator at CCDT, explains: “Our community has suffered substantially from the impact of the pandemic, resulting in extensive social isolation and mental health issues.”
Through our Community Grant Scheme, we have donated the CCDT a £5,000 community grant to go towards transforming a disused wilderness area into a permanent outdoor centre for multi-generational learning and activities, providing a lasting community legacy.
The grant will also cover the cost of workshops focusing on youth engagement, mental and physical wellbeing and training opportunities for people with minimal access to green spaces.
Claire Robinson said: “This donation will have a transformative effect by developing the area into an outdoor learning and community space. The space will provide the opportunity to re-connect with nature, meet new people and enjoy inter-generational activities.”
The trust owns, manages and maintains community facilities for the enjoyment of people disadvantaged by their disability, social background or economic circumstances. It aims to create an environment where entrepreneurial spirit can flourish, as well as promoting community spirit.
