Go-Ahead Group eyes up water and money savings at bus and rail sites
We’re working with The Go-Ahead group on a pilot to reduce water consumption at two of their sites that could potentially be rolled out nationwide.
We have funded a consultation, which included carrying out site surveys at both Littlehampton Train Station/Depot and Newport Bus Depot to:
- Identify where water savings could be made across the sites
- Propose recommendations for ways to increase water efficiency
- Provide individual cost estimations and ROI for the implementation of each solution
- Provide individual water reduction estimations for each solution implemented
Bruno Cozzo, Group Senior Sustainability Manager at The Go-Ahead Group, said: “Water is a valuable resource for our bus and rail operations.
“The trial in partnership with Southern Water aims to demonstrate how a water-efficient bus and rail depot or station looks like from a retrofit perspective – highlighting measures that can save water in the UK and abroad.”
The consultation, that was awarded to Business Stream after a tender process, took place in September 2023. Southern Water are reviewing the report findings to look at further funding opportunities to carry out the recommendations at the two sites.
Tom Abel, Director of Sales, Business Stream said ‘’We were delighted to be selected by Go-Ahead, following a competitive tendering process, to partner on this project. We fully support Go-Ahead’s goals to save both energy and carbon on their journey to Net Zero and their commitment to investing in water efficiency measures to help achieve their targets. By conducting water efficiency audits at their sites, we’ve been able to identify cost savings, deliver environmental efficiencies and increase awareness around water efficiency across the wider group”.
